A Pyramid on an Asteroid: Preserving Humanity's Legacy in Deep Space
We're putting a pyramid on an asteroid! A nearly eternal monument to humanity and life from Earth.
We've assembled an inspiring collection of art, knowledge, and creative projects thanks to our LifeShip community. We are set to launch on AstroForge's DeepSpace-2 mission which is now targeting a launch in October 2026. We completed the pyramid assembly and delivered it to AstroForge. This will be the very first commercial journey to an asteroid and a pioneering private mission into deep space.
I am thrilled for LifeShip to be part of this groundbreaking demonstration mission to land on an asteroid. Asteroid mining holds immense promise for Earth. While extractive terrestrial mining often devastates our planet and fuels conflict, an abundance of rare Earth metals floats by us in space. AstroForge aims to tap into these resources to transform scarcity, dramatically reduce Earth's extractive footprint, and unlock tremendous benefits for our home planet.
Our community has contributed an amazing collection for this mission. What the pyramid does carry is extraordinary: a stunning collection from our artist community and a 5D memory crystal by SD Photonix containing the story of humanity and Earth. The complete human genome is digitally etched into Cerabyte ceramic, designed to endure for billions of years. We have saved the blueprint for a human—essentially forever—and are sending it into deep space!

A collection of art added to the asteroid mission.

This mission truly was a community powered mission. Many people made new artistic creations for the mission, added their own collections, or started their own entrepreneurial projects to include content. We used Kickstarter to hold a successful crowdfunding campaign for people to join and support the mission. People added their art, creations, and more through the campaign.

Inside the base of the pyramid are laser marked signatures from LifeShip Founding Citizens and core supporters.

A memory crystal made by SD Photonix with artwork by Samuel Stubblefield Studios. The art resembles the oldest footprint of a hominid discovered. It is our earliest mark, and now we are sending this footprint into deep space along with data sharing the story of humanity and information about Earth.

Art, microscopic analog images, and digital info saved on thin ceramic sheets with Cerabyte. We etched the complete digital code of the human genome into ceramic to last a billion years.

Ben delivering the pyramid in front of an actual sized model of AstroForge's DeepSpace-2 spacecraft.
One of the Longest Lasting Human Objects
Thank you to everyone who is a part of this mission—to AstroForge for including us on this bold journey, and to our technology partners, SD Photonix and Cerabyte, for manufacturing the archival technologies. Thank you to the artists, creators, and entrepreneurs who added their creativity, art, and imagination into this archive.
The pyramid is a powerful choice for this monument. Humans have built them for thousands of years across different continents, connecting our greatest civilizations with the celestial realm. Now, we are sending a Pyramid to an asteroid, where it could become one of the longest-lasting human objects.
Imagine having a conversation with an ancient Egyptian pyramid builder or a Mayan cosmologist about how we launched a pyramid on a rocket and landed it on an asteroid in orbit around the Sun.
This mission is another small, powerful step in humanity's opportunity to continue Earth’s story. It is in our DNA to expand, awaken, and explore—to become the galactic species we are meant to be. We carry this forward through community, culture, and a shared purpose: continuing the beautiful and enduring human story.
We are so excited to watch this launch and follow the journey to land on an asteroid. Congratulations to everyone who created something that will be onboard this monumental mission.
